DNA Confirms Identity in 1972 Cold Case

After more than 30 years of not knowing, the family of Michael Akey finally gets some closure. Akey disappeared from Beaufort in 1972 when he was only 13 years old. Six years later, investigators found skeletal remains on Lady's Island.

Last August, investigators exhumed those remains from Beaufort National Cemetery for new DNA tests. This week, those results came back, positively matching the remains to Akey.
