An Oroville man, who is currently in state prison on unrelated charges, will be transported to Butte County court to face new charges of multiple counts of rape thanks to the results of DNA tests.
An arrest warrant was obtained by the Butte County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit for Jamahl Rashad Mcmillon, 25, of Oroville on multiple counts of raping a person under the age of 18.
"The charges stem from an investigation that began in July 2005 when a 17 year old minor reported to the Sheriff's Department that Mcmillon provided her with a large amount of alcohol prior to sexually assaulting her. During the investigation, DNA evidence was collected that links McMillon to these charges," said a press release from the Butte County Sheriff's Office.
The rape charges were formally filed with the District Attorney's office on Monday. "Initially, he (Mcmillon) denied it," said Detective Tom Dryden of the Special Victims Unit, who also investigates abuse of the elderly and children.
"The victim identified Mcmillon and told us his name," Dryden said. "We submitted the DNA evidence to the Department of Justice crime lab, and we received the answer on March 21, which led us to charge Mcmillon in this case."
