Man linked by DNA to girl's death found guilty of murder
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A convicted rapist has been found guilty in the death of a teenage girl 17 years ago after DNA information from a national database linked him to the crime.
Mack A. Calhoun, 35, was found guilty on Friday of first-degree murder for the death of 17-year-old Renee Weathersby.
He is serving a 30-year sentence for kidnapping and rape that occurred in 1991 - two years after Weathersby was killed.
DNA samples from semen found on Weathersby's body were linked to Calhoun two years ago, court records show, after the Kansas City crime lab added the samples to the national database.
Weathersby was found in a road in March 1989, shot twice in the head. Homicide detectives could not identify a suspect.
Police said she had a history of prostitution and never had a permanent address, living with relatives and friends.
