Police Say DNA Evidence Has Helped Them Solve Two Cold Cases

(AP) -- Police say DNA evidence was used to link a man to a Lexington murder case that had been cold for nine years.

Aarion Lamon Johnson, who is already in state prison, is now charged with murder and abuse of a corpse in the 1997 death of Susanne Soffels.

Johnson was linked to Soffels' murder through the Combined DNA Index System, a national database of blood and saliva evidence.

Johnson was already serving time at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville for burglary, rape and related crimes after being convicted in December 2000.

Lexington police say grant money has helped bring about three murder charges in cases that had previously gone cold.
