DNA Fingers Suspect In San Jose Sex Assault
(AP) SAN JOSE San Jose police are crediting DNA evidence with leading them to a suspect in the sexual assault of a woman near San Jose's Alum Rock Park.
A San Jose police spokesman says 23-year-old Alberto Pablo Ruiz of San Jose was arrested Friday after DNA evidence left at the scene of the attack earlier this month led investigators to him.
Police say the evidence was matched to Ruiz's DNA found in a database.
It's unlcear why his DNA was on file, but people jailed on suspicion of certain crimes and convicted of some felonies are required by law to give DNA for crime databases.
The brazen daytime assault took place April First on a trail just outside Alum Rock Park.
The unidentified woman was hiking when the man threw a rock at her head.
Police say the pair struggled and the man pulled out a sharp object and threatened the woman before sexually assaulting her and running away.
