DNA Nabs Sexual Assault Suspect after Unrelated Robbery Tom Durante 10/24/2005 12:40 pm A Brentwood man is in custody after DNA evidence linked him to a sexual assault from August. Suffolk police say they collected the DNA of Shane Williams, 21, of Brentwood from the scene of the sexual assault that occurred on Aug. 27. Shortly after the results came back from the crime lab, Williams was arrested for an unrelated robbery on Oct. 20. "It's purely coincidental that he was arrested [for a separate crime] while we were looking for him," says Lt. Matthew Sullivan of the Third Squad. Williams was charged with robbery for the Oct. 20 incident, but then further charged with criminal sexual act, two counts of sexual abuse, and robbery in the Aug. 27 case. Williams was arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip. |
