Police: DNA Links Man To 1998 Rape Of Child Girl, 13, Taken From Bus Stop, Raped
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- DNA evidence led to an arrest in an unsolved rape case, police said Tuesday.
Prosecutors charged Damon D. Marley, 27, with 16 felonies, including rape, sodomy, child molestation and sexual abuse.
The charges stem from the rape of a 13-year-old girl in February 1998. Court documents show that the teenager had been waiting at a bus stop at 75th Street and Troost Avenue, when a man asked her if she wanted to watch some movies in his apartment. While walking there, the suspect picked up the girl and carried her to an apartment, according to court records.
The girl told police that she was threatened with death if she didn't do the sexual acts the man wanted. She said the man hit her on the face, choked her, raped her, and then he disappeared.
Officials said Marley gave a DNA sample last year when he was convicted on an unrelated criminal charge. Court papers say the odds of a DNA mismatch are one in 420 trillion.
Marley is being held on $500,000 bond.
